Social Media Advertising vs Traditional Advertising

There has been a huge shift from traditional to social media advertising. Companies both large scale and small have started to adapt to this mostly digital world. This adaptation can be difficult! Let me try and break it down for you.



1) Before learning how to use social media as an effective way to communicate with your audience, you must know the difference before traditional and social first. For example, traditional advertising is a closed and controlled system with one-way messages while social is an open and transparent system with two-way dialogue. It's like a chess game. Do your research on the opponent so you know what their next move is going to be. The more likely you are to outsmart him. Know your playing field!


2) After you are comfortable with the differences, we move onto the planning process. This is the step where we conduct a competitive analysis as well as a social media presence audit. The competitive analysis is where you list out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of your brand. The social media audit is done by researching the comments/feedback you or your company is receiving on all social media platforms. During the audit you also take note of the schedule in which you post on and the magnitude of the reach.


3) Once you have an idea of how you are operating on social media, set your social media objectives and strategies. The objective is a measurable milestone toward which your efforts are directed. Your strategy is the plan of action designed to achieve the objective. The objective should be your WHAT and the strategy should be your HOW. Make sense?


4) After you set your goals and execution. Start executing! Keep in mind everything you chose to do should ALWAYS relate back to your strategy. Think: does this make sense to do? Does this fit in nicely with my plan or am I creating this in a vacuum? Even if you have a great idea it has full potential to fail if it doesn't relate back to your overall strategy!
